Born in Israel, Shlomo has called New Zealand home for more than 30 years. Shlomo’s first venture into hospitality was back in 1989 when he opened “Shesh Besh” New Zealand’s first Israeli café. Shlomo and his business partner Asher owned the Karangahape Rd café for 5 years before moving on.
In 2009 Shlomo & Idan opened Fat Camel Israeli café in Quality Street. The menu at Fat Camel is modeled on that of Shesh Besh. It was successful then due to its supply of fresh healthy and tasty fast food offered at an affordable price and the same still applies today. Shlomo now lives in Northland with his Wife and 3 children.

Idan, partner at Fat Camel, was born in Israel and moved to New Zealand in 2008. Idan’s social nature led him to the hospitality industry and from the beginning he was passionate about coffee. It is his dedication to the perfect cup of coffee that has led Fat Camel to multiple wins at the Northland Barista Awards.
Idan can be found working at the Cafe most days of the week and is much loved by the Fat Camel clientele for his ready smile, relaxed manner and his ability to make everyone feel welcome.

Raman has been an integral part of the Fat Camel Team for many years now and will be a familiar face to most of you. Raman joined us as a kitchen hand while studying to become a Chef at North Tech in Whangaeri, working her way up to Head Chef. She is an excellent team leader and is always ready with a smile and plate of great food. Raman can be found onsite most days of the week preparing a delicious meal for you, working the grill and filling your pita or plate to overload.
